COURSE: PHOTO COMMUNICATION I

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course is offered as a compulsory course for the semester 3 students of Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (FCMS). It aims is to teach students to take and compose photographs using Single Lens Reflect (SLR) cameras and later edit and manipulate them in digital form. It is a practical learning course (i.e. taking, and manipulating images). Photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop will be taught to the students. At the end of the course, the students will be expected to understand the camera, techniques of taking pictures and will be able to edit their work-using photo editing software. The students will be able to understand, appreciate and analyze the aesthetic value of photograph. At the end of the course, the students will have the opportunity to showcase their work to the rest of the faculty and their work will be evaluate by their respective lecturers.

OBJECTIVES:

    Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
    1. Use the 32mm SLR Camera
    2. Understand, appreciate and analyze the aesthetic value of photographs.
    3. Edit photograph using the photo editing software.
    4. Know about the importance of photography in the field of Journalism, Public Relations, Broadcasting, Advertising and Publishing.

RELATION TO OTHER SUBJECT
The course is related to some of the courses taught in semester 1 and 2 (e.g. Introduction to Mass Communication, Graphics and Layout, Newspaper Production, Magazine Production, Multimedia Production etc.). Students should be able to relate photography with writing, speaking and other communication courses.
