SYNOPSIS:This course provides students with the essential knowledge of design principles and practical aspects of designing effective layouts for various publications. Messages in communication can be better explained, and thus made effective with the help of pictures and other graphic images. For communicators in such areas such like public relations, advertising, publishing, journalism and in even marketing field, this course provides relevant and useful understandings of the design principles and the need to create effectively designed and visually well-organized publications. In short, students in these areas of studies will understand the importance of producing high-quality printed publications not only in terms of creativity, but also effective in visual communication when they are called upon to execute this task in their future career. Graphics and Layout will delve into topics like the historical context and development of graphic communications, principles of design, and other core aspects of design process for various publications, where rules and reasons are applied. As graphic designs the production of printed publications have been by technological change, this course will also expose students to the fundamentals of computer graphics and electronic composition.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:
- Understand the historical context of graphic communication
- Understand the principles of design and production process
- Apply the knowledge acquired to design and produce various publications
- Able to create web graphics
